Vingroup Big Data Institute signs a cooperation agreement with the Department of Information Technology – Ministry of Health

In August 2019, Vingroup Big Data Institute VinBDI and the Department of Information Technology – Ministry of Health signed a cooperation agreement on health information technology research and development for the period from 2019 till 2024.

On the basis of voluntary, equality, consensus and in accordance with the law, in August 2019, Vingroup Big Data Institute VinBDI and Department of Information Technology – Ministry of Health organized a cooperation signing ceremony. This cooperation agreement was to promote the research, application and development of health information technology in Vietnam, including the following main contents:

1. Formulate regulations on exchanging medical data among different health facilities, as well as organizations and individuals who conduct research on applying artificial intelligence in medical products.

2. Pilot collecting patients’ data at a number of health facilities, for the purpose of artificial intelligence research, in accordance with the Ministry of Health regulations.

3. Cooperate in training and researching on digital health.

The cooperation between the Information Technology Department – Ministry of Health and Vingroup Big Data Institute VinBDI  is aimed at promoting the competence of each party, contributing to the application of information technology in hospitals, improving the quality of medical examination and treatment, thereby providing Vietnamese people a better life.

Vingroup Big Data Institute VinBDI is a research institute specializing in solutions related to Big data and artificial intelligence. VinBDI attracts numerous talented experts in the field of research such as Prof. Vu Ha Van, etc. Although newly established by Vingroup, with a research fund of VND 1,000 billion, the Institute soon has a research award and applies it in practice. Recently VinBDI has ranked fifth in the contest on radiology software organized by the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) (the Institute’s research team is among the five leading teams in a total of more than 1,000 participants from around the world).

The Department of Information Technology – Ministry of Health has helped the Minister of Health in promoting the application of medical information technology, actively participating in the 4th industrial revolution. With the technological trend of the 4th industrial revolution belongs to 3 fields of science: physics (3D printing technology), digital technology (internet connecting everything – IoT, BigData, intelligence artificial – AI, Blockchain) and biology (genetic engineering and cell technology), all three taking digital technology as the basis. Application of IT in hospitals is important, thus the Ministry of Health has set criteria for IT application in medical examination and treatment facilities. According to Circular No.54/2017/ TT-BYT, the hospital reaching the sixth level is considered a smart one; and the Ministry also determined to deploy electronic medical records in all hospitals according to Circular No. 46/2018 / TT-BYT. Big data and artificial intelligence are of prime interest in deploying IT applications in hospitals.
