Professor Do Ngoc Minh is currently the professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is also the vice provost at VinUniversity.
Used to be the student at Lam Son Gifted High School, Thanh Hoa, he won the Silver Medal at the 32nd International Math Olympics in Sweden in 1991. He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Canberra, Australia in 1997, and a Doctor of Science degree in Communication Systems from ‘Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2001. Since 2002, he has been Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He used to be the vice editor-in-chief of IEEE Transactions on Image Processing and member of IEEE Technical Committees on Signal Processing. In 2014, he was appointed IEEE Fellow for his contribution in image representation and computerized images. Professor Minh believes that modern researchers need to have multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary understanding in order to develop new ideas. With this in mind, he has made a lot of contribution in technology transfer as the Chief Technology Officer of Personify and scientific lead of Misfit and Beckman Fellow at Center for Advanced Study, UIUC.
In terms of honors, Prof. Minh has a strong research foundation with the H-Index at 60, which is amazing, especially for the young scientist in the field of natural sciences. In addition to 70 scientific publications, 63 presentations at international conferences, Prof. Do Ngoc Minh has been honored with excellent awards such as NSF Career Award by the National Science Fund in US; Best Student Paper Award in the IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP); Most Innovative Paper Award at IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP); Xerox Award for researching Faculty, Technology University, UIUC and IEEE Best Paper Award.
